Plumbing and Oil Heating Specialist By Les Barclay

I specifically bought my Rage circular saw for cutting through floorboards and flooring, a part of plumbing that most people forget, I have written off more saw blades on nails than I care to remember.

The last job I did involved cutting through chipboard flooring to run two lengths of 22mm piping from one end of the house to the other, I set the blade up to give a cut about 2mm deeper than the chipboard and set about the fun part, slicing through the chipboard: as usual, the chipboard presented no problem, and the occasional spark indicated that a nail had got in the way.

As I went through the door aperture the saw started to labour slightly for about 150mm then carried on as before slicing easily through the chipboard. The second cut followed the same pattern as the saw passed through the doorway.

After the 2 cuts were completed, I lifted the chipboard to find a totally unexpected steel beam running under the door. I was surprised to see the beam, but I was even more surprised to see 2 bright cuts through the surface of the beam. The blade had scored the beam twice and had then gone on to cut the chipboard. No ordinary blade would get any where near this performance. The saw has made my job so much easier and saved me money.

As a footnote, I have just finished using the same saw and blade to build a very large decking area in my garden.

From Ed: Great Story, and a lesson to us all; always set the depth of cut correctly when cutting through a floor, you never know what lies beneath!
