This years Snooker World Championship featured a few surprises and Evolution’s Shaun Murphy was involved in a huge one.
As one of the pre-tournament favourites Murphy was aiming to finish the season as both world number one and world champion. He dismissed his first round opponent, Dave Harold, with relative ease and was widely expected to kick on from this. However, his progression was halted in spectacular fashion in the next round by fellow Englishman Ali Carter. Murphy, usually Mr Consistency, suffered a rare dip in form leaving Carter with a passage in to the last 16. Carter, nicknamed ‘The Captain’, progressed all the way to the final where he was comprehensively defeated by world number one, Ronnie O’Sullivan. Although it was a disappointing tournament for Murphy, his performance over the entire season has been nothing short of brilliant and that will give him tremendous hope when the new season gets underway in August 2008. Evolution will continue their sponsorship of Shaun for next season and are confident of even more success. Read the round by round reports. |
