So here's a few snooker questions to get things started... How do you deal with the pressure of being in a big tournament like the World Championships? On my debut I was swamped by the pressure and I was too young to cope with it all. Now, I try my best to treat it as any other tournament but obviously that is difficult because it just isn’t any other tournament. At the end of the day, if you keep your head on you can do well. What would it mean to you to finish the season as world number one? It would be fantastic…when I was a kid I had three goals; to become the world champion, become world number one and drive a Merc (laughs). I have achieved two of those goals and to be world number one would be brilliant. The world championship is more important to me however. Who do you see as the main competition in winning the world title? I would say Stephen Maguire and Mark Selby; they are the guys in form. What would you say are your main strengths and weaknesses in the game? I never lie down; if you’re still playing you’ve still got a chance. I’m also a good potter and a good break builder. I am working on my weaknesses all the time, such as my shot selection; knowing when is the best time to attack or defend. Ok, that's enough with the obligatory snooker questions, let's get down to what's really important... How would you rate yourself as a DIY-er? I’m a closet DIY person and I think every bloke is in to a bit of DIY. I’m planning on making my own indoor putting green at the moment and I always like to have little project going on. What CD have you got in your car at the moment? Well I don’t know about in my car but I can play you what I’ve been listening to on my mp3 player (plays Kylie Minogue ‘Wow’). I’m in to Kylie at the moment, everyone likes a bit of Kylie don’t they? I’m also liking Christina Aguilera as well. I play a bit of piano and I’m hoping to start having lessons so I can get to grade eight, I realise that sounds ambitious but I figure even Jools Holland had to start somewhere. What other sports do you play and / or watch? Golf, to play and watch. I play off 6 (handicap). I’ve not had the chance to get to many tournaments this year, I went to the B & H Championship at the Belfry and I am hoping to get to the British Open this year at Royal Birkdale. I also play a bit of tennis in the summer. |
